Some elements of First Aid can be taken online, but some classroom activity must take place for legal compliance.

Does online learning have a place for those needing First Aid training?

The HSE state that for compliance the practical elements of First Aid must take place in the classroom space, however they permit some of the theory elements to be taken online. This method of delivery is referred to as blended learning.

Here’s the HSE guidance on this https://www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/geis3.pdf

This” blended learning” approach does give employers the benefit of flexibility – it can save both time and cost. This is particularly popular with schools where full training days are limited. It does mean learners can access the remainder of their course at their own convenience – which for most works well… however … we do often find course organisers have to chase people to complete their course within the allotted time frame, which can become time consuming !

So there are obviously pros and cons for this approach, we generally promote full face to face learning as we feel we can really give people the confidence in the practical life saving skills.

We do offer some First Aid training fully online, this is a great way for those not seeking to fulfill the role of a ” First Aider” to gather knowledge around specific medical emergencies – Anaphylaxis awareness for example. https://aidtrainingonline.com/course/anaphylaxis
